They?re an essential part of every high school athletic contest, yet they would rather you not remember they were there.? ?They
get most of the blame and none of the glory. And they work more for love than money.
They?re officials, and in some sports, they?re in short supply.
?We see the most need in volleyball, wrestling and swimming,? said Craig Anderson, the IHSA assistant executive director responsible for officials. ?And we are seeing the age of our track and field officials continue to grow, so I would put them in there because we could use some young track and field officials. We?re afraid at some point those guys will retire, and we won?t have anybody to replace them. But you could make that argument for a number of sports.?
