Lenovo's Android 3.1-powered IdeaPad K1 tablet hands-on (video)

Is the next major Honeycomb tablet play seriously coming from Lenovo? Sure looks it, as the company has just taken the (final) wraps of its IdeaPad K1. For all intents and purposes, the K1 is a LePad dressed up in Android -- this one's packing a 1.0 GHz Tegra 2 chipset, a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800) capacitive touchpanel, Android 3.1, a two-cell battery (good for "up to ten hours") and a few minor software tweaks that may or may not appeal to you. The Lenovo Launcher is the first of those, acting as a five-pane launchpad that's completely customizable by the user, and it's one that can even be disabled if you so choose. The other is the introduction of the Lenovo App Shop, yet another venue to suck down applications for Google's tablet OS. The reason for its inclusion? According to reps here at the show, it's there to provide a secure, safe haven for people to download from -- the software that makes the cut here has been tested in Lenovo's labs for stability and security, though the company did confess that certain app developers may fork over a bit of cash to have their program(s) considered for inclusion. More after the break...

Muscle Pharm Assault Review: Learn About the Ingredients - Health Help

Muscle Pharm Assault is a Nitric Oxide supplement that should be taken before a workout. Athletes need to take supplements before a workout so that their muscles can get the ?juice? they need to perform. The ingredients found in this formula help prevent muscle fatigue. They provide energy and drive to the user.

The product contains powerful compounds with volumizing qualities. These hydrogen ion scavengers work with anti-fatigue properties to keep the muscles strong and tight during weight training.

Arginine is one of the ingredients in the formula. It promotes nitric oxide production throughout the body. With enough nitric oxide, the blood vessels are widened to help blood flow; the muscles receive a ?boost? for strength and endurance; and recovery time is quicker.

Another major ingredient in Muscle Pharm Assault is creatine. This is a nitrogenous acid that gives the muscles the energy they need to work.

Amazon Cuts California Affiliates After State Passes Internet ...

internet_salestax

California passed legislation Tuesday, June 28, that will allow for the taxing of out-of-state retailers, which will specifically affect e-tailers. Directly following the provision?s approval, Amazon.com announced it would drop all California retail affiliates.

The new? law closes a loophole that allowed Internet retailers to not charge sales tax on purchases and comes in the wake of similar laws in six other states. Amazon dropped all affiliates in those states as well and large online e-tailers across the board followed suit, including Backcountry.com, which released this statement from Affiliate Program Manager Jeremy Curtis Wednesday afternoon in response to the legislation?s passage:

?This provision has forced us to terminate all relationships with affiliate partners located in California.? The Governor is required to sign the bill no later than July 1st, which required us to begin the affiliate removal process immediately.? If the Governor does not sign the bill all of our affiliates will immediately be reinstated.? Since the provision just passed last night, we didn?t have any notice and had to take action immediately before we could give our affiliate partners notification.
We truly value our affiliate partnerships and are hopeful we can resume a successful partnership in the near future.?

In a statement to California affiliates, Amazon executives said ties would only be restored if the legislation was repealed:

?We oppose this bill because it is unconstitutional and counterproductive. It is supported by big-box retailers, most of which are based outside California, that seek to harm the affiliate advertising programs of their competitors. Similar legislation in other states has led to job and income losses, and little, if any, new tax revenue. We deeply regret that we must take this action.?

Amazon.com and another e-commerce retailer, Overstock.com, took similar actions against North Carolina, Arkansas, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Illinois after the legislatures in those states passed Internet tax laws.

California?s new Internet tax law was applauded as a measure that leveled a playing field, said state Sen. Loni Hancock (D?Berkeley).

?No longer will out-of-state online merchants be able?to underprice local stores and California-based online businesses by as much as 10 percent by simply refusing to collect state sales tax. It?s only fair,? she said in a June 28 statement.

In our July issue, contributing writer Ryan Dionne takes a look at the ongoing battle retailers have been fighting at the state level when it comes to online sales tax. According to the article, federal law requires retailers that have only a physical presence in a state to charge in-state customers sales tax, but New York, Illinois, Arkansas and a handful of others have passed laws stating that any retailer with an affiliate in their state is considered to have a physical presence. Affiliates, in most cases, are bloggers that host retailers? ads, and in these states, online-oriented retailers like Evo, Moosejaw, Backcountry, and Amazon would rather drop affiliates than collect sales tax.

?States often look for ways for other entities to collect their sales tax for them,? says Rebecca Madigan, executive director of the Performance Marketing Association. ?You have to have a real physical presence, [and] there is no physical boundary with the Internet.?

In states that have passed laws requiring online sales tax collection, online-oriented retailers like Evo, Moosejaw, and Backcountry would rather drop affiliates than collect sales tax writes Dionne in an article on Skiingbusiness.com:

Nathan Decker, Evo?s e-commerce senior manager, says just that. Evo is predominantly online but has a store in Seattle and is looking to expand. Decker says the company?s roughly 3,000 affiliates help drive about 5 percent of the company?s revenue.

And of those 3,000 affiliates, about a dozen drive the majority of the sales.

However, Decker says they?ll consider online-sales-tax laws when the retailer looks to open more physical stores.

At Moosejaw, dropping affiliates makes a bigger impact.

?Our affiliate program is our biggest marketing channel,? Comerford says.

Its affiliates help drive between 13 percent and 19 percent of the company?s revenue. However, in terms of revenue generation, of its roughly 5,000 affiliates, about 50 are meaningful and about 10 of those are really meaningful, he says.

TransWorld Business would like to know your thoughts on this issue. Do you agree with state legislation that makes it mandatory to tax out-of-state retailers? How do you see this affecting your business?

The gay and lesbian relationships

America has to accept an aversion to the relations between people of the same sex. This reluctance follows a similar pattern to the hostility towards interracial relationships. Although more and more accepting of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people and relationships are "not very often in America today. The stereotype is that practicing these groups promiscuous lifestyle .

Many homosexuals currently seek marriage rightsto recognize their committed relationships. This campaign for gay marriage rights was met with acceptance and rejection. Several states have recently decided to revise the wording for legal marriages so that a marriage can exist only between a man and a woman. In addition, several states have legalized same-sex marriage decisions seen. The issue is very polarizing in America, and the opposition to gay marriage is largely based on religion, morality is based, andcultural beliefs. In order to defuse some of this polarization, some states have found middle ground to recognize "civil unions" for same-sex couples.

Despite the political climate for the hot topic of gay marriage, the media have made ??progress to increase the acceptance by the depiction of human relationships in alternative lifestyles. In addition, there is a very strong community for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people and can offer muchSupport, if not in every city, at least on the Internet. Books, websites, television and other media offer more options geared to couples that break the heterosexual norm.

Perhaps because the country is so divided by the number, the gay and lesbian relationships receive more attention and discussion in the last ten years received.

Muslim woman sues Abercrombie & Fitch over hijab (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO ? A former stockroom worker for Abercrombie & Fitch Co. sued the clothing retailer in federal court Monday, saying she was illegally fired after refusing to remove her Muslim headscarf while on the job.

Hani Khan said a manager at the company's Hollister Co. store at the Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo hired her while she was wearing her hijab. The manager said it was OK to wear it as long as it was in company colors, Khan said.

Four months later, the 20-year-old says a district manager and human resources manager asked if she could remove the hijab while working, and she was suspended and then fired for refusing to do so.

It's the latest employment discrimination charge against the company's so-called "look policy," which critics say means images of mostly white, young, athletic-looking people. The New Albany, Ohio-based company has said it does not tolerate discrimination.

Still, Abercrombie has been the target of numerous discrimination lawsuits, including a federal class action brought by black, Hispanic and Asian employees and job applicants that was settled for $40 million in 2004. The company admitted no wrongdoing, though it was forced to implement new programs and policies to increase diversity.

"Growing up in this country where the Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of religion, I felt let down," Khan, now a college student studying political science, said at a news conference. "This case is about principles, the right to be able to express your religion freely and be able to work in this country."

Abercrombie defended its record in a comment provided to The Associated Press, saying diversity in its stores "far exceeds the diversity in the population of the United States."

"We comply with the law regarding reasonable religious accommodation, and we will continue to do so," said Rocky Robbins, the company's general counsel. "We are confident that when this matter is tried, a jury will find that we have fully complied with the law."

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco comes after the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled in September that Khan was fired illegally. Khan's lawsuit was filed in conjunction with the EEOC's lawsuit.

It is not the first time the company has been charged with discriminating against Muslim women over the wearing of a hijab.

In 2009, Samantha Elauf, who was 17 at the time, filed a federal lawsuit in Tulsa, Okla., alleging the company rejected her for a job because she was wearing a hijab.

The EEOC filed another lawsuit for the same reason, saying the company denied work to a hijab-wearing woman who applied for a stocking position in 2008 at an Abercrombie Kids store at the Great Mall in Milpitas, Calif.

Khan's attorney said her client is looking to get Abercrombie to change its "look policy" to allow religious headscarves to be worn by employees, and for unspecified damages. The lawsuit alleges violations of federal and state civil rights and employment laws.

"Abercrombie prides itself on requiring what it calls a natural classic American style. But there's nothing American about discriminating against someone because of their religion," said Araceli Martinez-Olguin, an attorney with the Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center.

"Such a look policy cannot be squared with our shared values. No worker should have to choose between their religion and their job."
